This is a review of major rule requirements for the Section and MN State High School Nordic Ski Meets:
- Hat rule during competition: two small logos OR one large logo
- In the Section Meet classic race there are designated classic-only technique zones that require only striding or herringbone. Double-poling is not permitted in classic-only technique zones. Below is a great video review of classic technique and violations.
- In classical technique competitions, the maximum pole length must not exceed 83% of the competitors body height. Look at the chart here to see if your poles are the correct height.
- In classic races, skating is prohibited. This is essentially gliding on an angled ski. The only area this is permitted with limited use is navigating a curve.
- In classic portion of Pursuit racing, the "Tracking Rule" is in place! There will likely be one set of classical tracks on the right side of the trail. The faster skier (coming up from behind) has the right to keep the track, if they choose. If they call "track", the slower skier (who was in front) must step out of the classical tracks, moving to the left or right (onto the flat snow) and use the appropriate classical technique until the faster skier has passed them. The slower skier may then step back into the tracks.
- "Tracking Rule" is not in place in finish stadium (last 100 meters). Pick a lane as you enter finish stadium. Skier cannot cut off another skier in the stadium. A skier can only switch lanes if it's clear. No interference with another skier in the finish stadium.
- Fluorcarbon waxes are banned... glide or kick!
