Welcome to cross-country skiing!
The purpose of this page is to be an organized starting point for new skiers and parents to answer the many questions that accompany the sweat, hard work and freezing temperatures of Nordic skiing. Each section below includes a link to additional information on the team website.
Priority #1: Buy NNN/Pro-Link Skate Boots now
The ski team uses one type of binding system (NNN/Pro-Link) and the team does not provide boots. You need to have a pair for the second day of practice. New boots are great, but a used pair on eBay does the same thing. Links to used boots on eBay are found clicking here. New boots are available in Winona at Adventure Cycle and Ski or also online at numerous vendors (i.e. Pioneer Midwest, GearWest, Akers-Ski, etc). Print-out for boot shopping: bootbuying2021.pdf

Priority #2: Familiarize yourself with the team website
This webpage is meant to be a 24/7 option for answering your questions. Further, realize how much information is available on it. There's information pertaining to daily practice schedule, a page explaining basic clothing and a checklist, and also a page explaining skis-boots-poles

Priority #3: Make sure you're on the email list...and you review it
Coach Teichroew sends out a detailed weekly email Saturday nights. This information is also posted on the homepage of the website. It is crucial for daily team success that athletes are familiar with the 2-3 basic expectations of each practice. If you do not review the schedule in the weekly emails or website, you will get frustrated and find difficulty keeping up with the fast and fun pace of the ski team.

Priority #4: Complete all Athletic paperwork and requirements
Athletes and parents are responsible for having a physical on file, Athletic form signed and activity fee paid.

Priority #5: Plan to be at practice daily the first two weeks of the season and ask a coach any question you have
The first two weeks of practice are set up for the entire group of first year skiers to learn together the basics of skiing. Anyone missing practice or showing up to ski after the first two weeks will be way behind other first year skiers.
